We at the Walled garden have started an annual tradition of having a 'Charity Fun Day' every year in October to raise awareness and money for the disease MS - Multiple Sclerosis.
"Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, but it can affect younger and older people too. Almost twice as many women have MS as men. "
Last year (2011) Was our first fundraising day and all our days have themes. Last year was a pirate theme! We had pirate hats, skull and cross flags, treasure hunts, pirate duck races and a range of other things including face painting and BBQ style burger stalls.
Our treasure hunt was a wild success with all the children, they had to follow clues through out the garden from the different animals and garden gnomes to find Jolly Jack and his pirate boat! Once they found him they had to go back to the stall and collect their prizes and gold coins! There was also a costume competition for the best pirate outfit!
We had all the normal things you get at fundraisers like riff raff stall, food stalls, raffles and they were all greatly successful for out first fund raiser!
Our volunteers from WWOOF helped us out organising and carrying out the day. We couldn't have done it with out them! We raised round about £350! Which is a great donation for the charity!
